He hadn't felt the true weight of his words until they were out. He didn't want to sound negative, or bring down the moment. In all honesty, he was speaking from a place of confidence. But these were trying times, and he could sense that his girlfriend was growing weary of the topic. Luckily, it was easy to shift the subject.
At the mention of Cerebro, Scott would release his hold around Jean's shoulder, adjusting his positioning to stand facing her as he folded his arms over his chest. Nodding his head in approval as she told him she was ready to helm the machine as their beloved mentor had done for so long up to this point. He had nothing but faith in her ability. As much as it still hurt to have the Professor gone, there was something exciting about the idea of seeing Jean come into her own. "I think that's a great idea. He couldn't help but take his own trip down memory lane. Thinking about when he first met the Professor and when he first met Jean. Everything was so different back then, and now things were coming full circle. Even back then, with his youth and inexperience with his powers, Jean always managed to make things easier. Now, as they embarked on this new chapter, he couldn't help but feel grateful to have her. He hoped they'd make Xavier proud.
