Jean Grey, Rogue, & Open
Jean could have fought with the security team and won. She could have made everyone in the room leave in an orderly fashion. She could have stopped the cameras from rolling. But none of that would bring Xavier back, and all of it would give credence to the negative opinions about mutantkind that the X-Men had been trying to squash for years now.
She let Rogue pull her close, watching as the security team carried Charles away. She was left on the stage, covered in blood and bereft. She wanted to be anywhere but in that room, and it was tempting to just run away. Still, her friends deserved more than that from her. They deserved to see the Jean they expected in times like this. It didn't matter if her whole world had just shattered. So had everyone else's. She wiped the tears from her face and carefully wiped away some of the blood. Giving Rogue's arm a gentle pat, she pulled back from the hug. "I'm going to check and make sure it's safe."
She flew upward, checking for vantage points from the likeliest places where the shot would have come from. She set herself down on the second floor overlook, searching the area for clues, trying not to make a mess for when SHIELD or the local authorities arrived. There was a frustrating lack of anything. It had been part of the security review. The whole area had been cordoned off and only security staff were supposed to be up here. From what she could see on first glance, that was all holding true. What she wouldn't give for psychometry at that moment.
It looks all clear up here, she told the others. Someone find out where they're taking the body. We need one of ours there to make sure he gets a fair examination... She could only imagine that the government would want to put this to bed as quickly as possible, regardless of whether or not a killer was found. I am going to make a call to the school. The news had almost certainly leaked already. At least some of the X-Men were back at their base of operations, and it would be up to them to make sure the students were safe and the campus secure.
There was so much to do, and now there was no man of vision to look to for guidance. She took a deep breath as she fumbled with her phone to pull up the emergency staff line, pushing down a second wave of tears that threatened.
