Jen (OT anyone who'd be at her apartment)
Being the big law nerd that she was, Jen had wanted really badly to go to the rally for the NY-GEA, but her schoolwork was mounting. Even though she'd had that Friday off, she opted to take it easy and peck at some of the papers she had to write. She had the speech up on the TV and her laptop on her lap, with her focus divided during the more boring introductory speeches. Everyone knew the main event was what Xavier had to say. He could make or break the bill.
When he came up to the podium, she set her laptop aside, taking a big gulp of wine and settling into her happy place. She was very familiar with Xavier's political stances since she'd been a temporary legal intern for the law firm representing Xavier's school and interests during the whole Mutant Registration Act fiasco a few years back. It had been one of the best experiences of her student career, and the mutant cause was one she believed in strongly. With the current crop of presidential candidates, she was secretly hoping to see his name on a ballot in the next few election cycles, but that would come in time. First was passing the NY-GEA, which actually had some decent provisions to help mutates like herself.
Her political daydreaming was cut short when Xavier stopped talking suddenly. From the angle of the shot on TV, was unclear what had happened at first and then the feed cut out. The cameras went back to the station's news desk, and the reporter looked pale and was gathering her words. Jen shot up from the couch. "Oh my god...oh my god!"
Bruce had given her a little heart monitor bracelet for Christmas, and she'd largely only worn it to pacify him. She registered that it was beeping rapidly, and she took a deep breath. She usually had a good track record for controlling her transformations, and she didn't want her emotions to get the better of her. A ticker on the screen was confirming Xavier had been shot. "Shit...SHIT!" She started to pace around the living room.
