Oh Barty never brought alcohol with him to work, and sure he often popped out around lunchtime to do whatever the hell he wanted (getting away was a good release on days he was stuck in), but that didn't often involve alcohol. Sometimes though. Taking a large sip as Rabastan talked, his lips curled up in a smile. Laughter while drinking didn't always go well together. "You aren't missing much," he commented after lowering the flask and letting the whiskey sit on his palate for a while.
And yes, Barty was expecting Rabastan to ask after Vera. Barty wasn't going to give details of his investigation. Rabastan was too close, and while Barty was an open book about himself, he knew it was more important to do the job well than talk them through every step of the way.
"She's being treated as highest priority," Barty replied, his joking tone missing, "Above Potter even." He nodded at Rab's request. "Been doing some overtime on her case, the most I can. I'll find her fast as I can." He couldn't promise more. Of course, he hoped that perhaps one of them would be able to convince her to come back before he had the opportunity. Barty had no doubts he'd take her in if he found her, but it wasn't going to be pleasant, he guessed. She wasn't just going to want to come with him.
