Who: Terrence.
What: delivering birthday presents.
When: Tuesday [forward-dated].
Where: Z's room.
Warnings: none.
It was simple enough to slip into the castle, for Terrence. He had an invisibility cloak, thanks to Z, and he had a password into Zach's room. He probably wasn't going to be around to watch Z open his presents, which was unfortunate, but then, that was half the point. He would be there for the party, of course. Or parties, plural.
There were six packages, numbered one through six in large letters on the side, which designated the order in which they were to be opened. The first contained a pair of dragonhide leather trousers for Z, the second a matching pair of leather boots for Tracey (which he was fairly sure would be obvious from the shoe size). The third contained a pensieve, and the fourth a box of three little vials containing a few of Terrence's memories. One of the vials, which was his memory of them in his flat after going clubbing, was labeled "incredibly naughty". A second, which was labeled "also very naughty", was his memory of snogging Tracey at the pool party, which he rather thought Z would appreciate much more now than he had at the time. And the third, which was labeled "just plain awesome", was his memory of Z's dance competition in the club, for both of their amusement.
The fifth package contained a pair of dragonhide gloves, and a note to put them on before opening the sixth, just in case. In the last was a cursed opal necklace he'd found in Borgin & Burke's, wrapped in two layers (one of wrapping paper, one in a sturdy clear wrap which would require a much sharper object than fingernails to open, thus preventing any accidents), with a card that described the effects of its curse. If Z actually managed to break the curse, he could give it to Tracey, but the point of the thing was to give Z something difficult and fun to work with.
He set them beside the bed, and set the card on top of them, which read simply: Happy Birthday, Z. Open these in order, and when you have plenty of time alone with Trace to enjoy them. Stepping back, he admired his handiwork, and slipped out of the room, making sure the door was locked behind him. Aside from the packages he'd left, it was as though he'd never been there.
