Oh good girl, Barty thought to himself when she talked about not wanting to make a scene. He preferred she did not make one because it made things more likely to go his way. However, he had teams of people to clean up after his side of the mess and be able to perfectly blame it on hers and twist it how he wanted. It hurt her more than him.
And there it was about word, already the negotiations began. A tingle traveled through his spine. Yes, negotiations were good. Oh perhaps she thought it was putting her foot down, but she was already trying to give terms for what he had stated, rather than asked, which was negotiations. "As long as you don't try anything, I won't try anything," Barty replied, "The moment you do anything funny- trying to leave without warning, contact someone, anything like that -all bets are off."
Barty was good with his word when it helped him, and he had few illusions that he was going to get everything he wanted out of the meeting in one go at it. But over time, perhaps, and to build that up, he had to be true to his word or else conversation was rather pointless.
