James tightened his arms around her. Lily, the one everyday constant in his life for so long; he'd never expected that there would actually be a night when he wouldn't come home to her, much less more than one night. These new covers, new requirements to keep himself alive and at large, had changed that too.
He wasn't going to let it become a regular occurrence, though. They had endured enough.
"I can guess," he said, resting his head against hers. "Won't happen again for a long while, I promise. I made sure to get enough to last." He smiled for her, feeling much better now that he was home. "I missed you terribly, you know."
