When he took a step back, pushed her away, Tracey felt like all of the air inside of her had been released. Confidence gone, she felt like a little girl trying to get her way, with little to no hope of doing so. The temptation was there, just for a moment, to leave. To push this all behind her. To find a way to continue on, with or without him as her friend. To find some random bloke to shag, if that was what she needed.
She could do it. She didn't need him. She didn't!
For a moment, she began to turn, determined to go and do just that. But by the time she was facing the door, she was just as unsure as when she had started.
Maybe she shouldn't have come here while drunk. Maybe she shouldn't have come at all.
"I liked it because it was you."
If he wanted more, then she wasn't sure he'd be able to get it. It wasn't cut and dry, black and white.
She wasn't going to fall apart if it all fell through.
