James had basically just picked an ale from the menu, since he was rather distracted. He liked his rum dark, so why wouldn't he go for a dark ale? But when he actually said I'll have the Downton Dark Delight, it sounded so much like innuendo to his ears that tears of suppressed mirth actually came to his eyes. It was also getting quite hard to breathe without the exhalation threatening to turn into a bark of laughter.
"Now there I can't help you," he said, grinning. "But I have a friend who might have a few recommendations." Sirius was in a relationship, of course, but it still seemed like something he might know. And the amusement he would get from Sirius' reaction to James asking about a gay club would be on a rather epic scale.
Merlin, he hoped Lily wasn't going to kill him for any of this.
"A bike is hardly necessary to ensure my survival," he pointed out, once he had managed a slightly calmer tone and expression. "I've gone this long just getting around walking, mostly. And a bike would only be able to take me certain places."
For instance, getting to the castle that had once been Hogwarts would be rather difficult to manage on a bike. So would getting himself, Remus, and Sirius to wherever they needed to be for the full moon. "Anyway, all that aside, if the best thing you can spend the money on is a bike for me, then we're all royally screwed, aren't we?"
