The day that his mother had died was normally the hardest day of Theodore's year. It was odd, then, to find that the anniversary and the thought of his mother was almost like a soothing balm this year. It wasn't quite the same as it would have been if his mother had actually been around, could enfold him in her arms and make everything feel alright again.
His mind was definitely not on all the trouble he'd had recently, however, which was no small mercy. Missing his mother was familiar and normal, unlike the rocky emotions he'd endured since Friday. Those same emotions were the reason why he hadn't come up with the right way to memorialize her this year until just now, but as soon as he'd had the idea, he knew it was perfect.
He padded over to Pansy's room, not having bothered to change out of his pyjamas and socks either, carrying his blanket and pillows for the both of them. They could find soft grass somewhere and set up a tent, he really wasn't picky about where, so long as they were outside. Camping with Pansy had been brilliant and freeing, and he wanted that feeling now. Tomorrow night he wanted to end it with a nice big fire.
Shifting the bundle of bedding in his arms, he knocked on Pansy's door, relieved beyond belief that she'd been willing to go along with his spontaneous idea.
