"I'm trying to understand," Vera said simply. "You spent years fighting this, and then you just do an about-face? It doesn't make sense. Being lonely is one thing, but you didn't even come back when the war was won."
She watched him carefully. She didn't like this. Finally she stood. "But, I guess it comes down to the fact that you're family."
