"How could I have sent James?! Sirius, I need you. I was frantic."
Remus retrieved the pebble with a last flick of his wand, and it came flying into his outstretched and no-longer-invisible hand. He pulled the cloak fully over himself and sat down against the bars to Sirius' cell. If the pebble was still in his hand when it activated, he knew he was the one who would be portkeyed away from here, but what else was there for it? He began to wonder if he could sneak the pebble against Sirius' skin, but he didn't see how he could do that. Sirius knew he had the pebble and would see it coming. Still, what could Sirius do about it? He was chained. A sticking charm to Sirius' cheek would take care of the pebble rather quickly, so long as no one came in to check on Sirius.
"I'll force you out of here if you won't cooperate," Remus said with more lightness than he felt. Were things at home so bad that Sirius would rather be in a prison cell in the Ministry? Hadn't their date went perfectly? Sirius seemed to believe he was himself now, but still he refused to take the portkey.
"If you're worried about me," Remus added, "I have an escape plan. Don't." He wasn't even sure if he did have an escape plan, but he was sure that Sirius needed to hear that he did.
