When Seamus received the news that he had been assigned a student at last, he was hardly sure what to feel. Shock was evident, because really who assigns a servant so late into the year? Perhaps the student just needed help packing. Then there was the gratefulness since he only had one person to report to now. Perhaps a little annoyance at the fact that he was actually grateful to have a.... Seamus looked down at the name on the slip. Mistress Shelly Moon?
With a great sigh he had crawled out of bed and made his way to the room listed on the slip of paper. He was not familiar with the name but he tended to forget the names of the students who sent him on errands. It was easier since they thought of him as dirt. He hesitantly knocked at the door. Perhaps he could play nicely for the last day she was about the castle and he could worry about real feelings on the subject for a month.
After everything that had gone down in the library Shelly had been determined to at least get some sleep, but it was hard coming and she didn’t entirely have time. She’d managed to get three hours before she needed to be up to start packing. While many of the other students used magic to pack, she found that generally that lead to things being tossed about and broken.
She’d gotten the note about being assigned a servant earlier in the day, but had practically forgotten about it until now. She had a stack of books in her hand and was about to put them into the trunk when there was a knock on the door. The room was a bit of a mess as she’d been at this for a couple of hours, and she called out “come in,” putting the books into the trunk before turning around and seeing a young man standing there she smiled. “Oh hello.” She recognized him from around the castle and knew that this had to be Seamus.
So this is my mistress? Seamus found himself thinking as he glanced at the girl carefully placing books into her trunk. Had she received the note stating he was her servant? Should he mention it? For several moments he stood in the doorway, feeling quite awkward and unsure of himself.
“Ms. Moon? Morning.” It was all he could manage as he looked around the room, trying not to make eye contact. “Um... I guess I was assigned to you? I mean, I was told that. Er, thought ya may need a hand packing and all that.” In his nervous state he found his accent thickening and tried to focus on his words.
She could see he was nervous and while other times it might have been cute, right now it was just a matter of getting him to calm down. “That’s very nice of you.” She looked around the room and saw just how much of a mess she’d made. “I might have something you can help me with, but why don’t you have a seat and relax for a bit.” She smiled. “I just have to finish with my textbooks and clothes first.” This wasn’t the first time she had had a servant, but she did not treat them as such... and so long as that information didn’t get out to the other students they were safe.
“Right.” He had to stop himself from repeating her order, even as he looked about the room. It was evident she still had packing to do so he felt horrible he was useless at the moment. Not one to ignore an order, misstep around it maybe but never ignore, Seamus found a comfortable chair and almost sighed as he relaxed into it. He had never been able to relax in such a nice room. Well, not for a long time at least. His blue eyes watched as his new mistress moved around the room, his body refusing to completely relax. She looked innocent enough but sometimes the ones who appeared so were the worst.
It was true that Shelly was used to doing it herself - even when she’d had a servant (and her last one had been older than her) she’d done the majority of the packing herself. Shelly glanced around the room and saw where Seamus was sitting. “Do you think you could hand me the book to your left...” She had a list of things that she was going to leave there in her head. Some books. Clothes. Definitely the bedding just in case he needed it or someone needed it. She thought that magical theory books might be a good idea. She knelt before the trunk and tilted her head to the side as if trying to solve a puzzle - which she was. She was trying to fit everything inside. The pile she was leaving was on her bed and that she wasn’t about to touch.
Seamus stood up, wanting to do something. He never could sit still, even if he was opposed to doing things for others. Picking up the book she had mentioned, he handed it to her before looking into her suitcase. His mind was already rearranging the things but he let his hands fidget. He sighed and shook his head.
“May I help? Please?” After years of packing, the days when he ran with his mother, he knew how to put the most amount of things in a little amount of space.
