It'd been so long she was actually nervous. She had been fussing with all the clothes in her closet all day before finding something that looked remotely like Sunday's best. She'd managed to clean up her shoes the night before. They were somewhere in the back of her closet. She'd lived at the school for so long the only pair of footwear she wore regularly were her sneakers. She was wondering if she should have been happy that they weren't forced to wear uniforms or she'd forget how to dress normally.
As they pulled up to the church, she was clutching her purse in her hands.
we're here.
That should've sounded less ominous than it really had. It'd just been so long since she'd actually left the school that she wasn't sure where was safe and where wasn't. It looked like it was safe. Looked like. It was a church. She was the first one to climb out after Paige, from the back of the van. Stepping out into the sun, she squinted a little. Oh mornings.
