Log: Copycat and Morph
Who: Vanessa Carlysle and Kevin Sydney
When: December 23, 2007
Where: Xavier’s School; the common room
What: Vanessa gives Kevin a birthday gift, Kevin takes out some mistletoe, and then they make out!
Vanessa totally owed Kevin a visit. First of all, she didn’t see him as often as she should have considering they lived together. Sure, they hung out every once in a while, but things tended to be so somber these days and it was affecting her mood so much that Vanessa was worried that it was making her a pain in the neck to be around. Especially to someone like Kevin, who was upbeat and peppy and happy all the time, even when things sucked. And with Doctor McCoy nearly getting burned at the stake [seriously, what the hell??], Vanessa was overly conscious of her blue skin and very cranky. But his birthday had passed and it was almost Christmas and she was trying to listen to what Jubilee said about things sucking but it being the holidays and they should at least try to enjoy them.
So she snagged some cookies from the kitchen and emailed Morph to have him meet her in the common room so they could just hang out. She did have a birthday present for it. It was a sort of lame present, considering that normal shopping was out of the question, but it was something. And she wanted him to know that she’d remembered his birthday. Because that would show that she liked him, right. Without actually having to leap out there and say ‘Hey, I like you!’ Perfect.
Morph was not about to turn down an invitation to hang out with Vanessa. Sometimes it seemed like the only time he saw her now was in training, and that was just ridiculous. As much fun as training was, he wanted to spend time with her. Just her. Preferrably in a world that wasn't going insane.
The world was so insane that he barely noted the passing of his birthday. He usually liked to make a big fuss about it, but with him being new here, he didn't want to rock the boat too much. People were very busy being upset and all. Far be it from him to interrupt that.
Still. He practically bounded into the common room, a surprise of his own in his back pocket. The mistletoe was going to remain hidden for now, thankyouverymuch, but it was there and he had every intention of using it.
“Hi!” she said, putting on her brightest face when Morph came into the room. She immediately offered up the cookies she’d snagged from the kitchen and gestured in the direction of the television set. “I dug up some Monty Python movies. Figured we could use a laugh.” They could all use a laugh. And at least Monty Python was bizarre, sort of weird humor as opposed to in your face, slap happy crap.
“And… I didn’t forget it was your birthday!” Vanessa reached down to the package at her feet. “It’s sort of a dumb gift, you know, because… I mean. A lot of stores aren’t open. So I had to make do. But… I didn’t want you to think I forgot.” She thought the hardcover book, Plato and a Platypus Walk into a Bar: Understanding Philosophy Through Jokes fit Morph’s personality perfectly. Being able to turn even serious stuff into something humorous. And plus… platypi! She hadn’t forgotten the platypi.
Then again… she didn’t even know if he liked to read. And it was sort of a dumb gift. But she hadn’t wanted to try to steal him a X-Box or something because… well, that’d be wrong for one thing.
"Ah, score!" he replied excitedly. Monty Python plus cookies equals win. "Thanks!" He took a cookie and wolfed it down as he took a seat.
When she pulled out the present, he blinked for a moment before smiling widely. She had remembered! That meant she liked him, right? At least it was a good sign. He took the present and smiled when he saw what was inside. Laughing, he skimmed through the pages. "Thanks so much, Nessie. I can't wait to read it." Really. And considering how hard it was to get presents right then, it really meant a lot to him.
Vanessa looked relieved, like she’d really expected him to hate it. “It’s not much but…” She was just sort of giggly and happy that he hadn’t looked at it like she’d given him a box of coal. “You know, like, usually, we’d get Fred to make a cake and have you blow out the candles at dinner and then maybe get a bunch of people to go out and do something for your birthday but, with stuff, I figured quiet would be good.”
"Hey, it's more than I was expecting," he assured her. "I'll just take a rain check on the cake and the partying," he added with a smile.
Pausing for a moment, he reached into his pocket. With a evil little glint in his eyes, he said, "You know I got something for you, too..." And yes, that was mistletoe he was pulling out of his pocket. The scamp.
The second Vanessa saw the mistletoe, she went red in the cheeks ---- red and not purple because, since hearing about Dr. McCoy, she’d refused to walk around blue, being paranoid and on edge. Oh, oh, wait. Did this mean…. Did he want to kiss her? She’d wanted to kiss him for months but she was woefully inexperienced with such things and she figured that he was the guy and if he hadn’t tried to kiss her yet then maybe he just didn’t want to. And she hadn’t wanted to ruin things. “You brought your own mistletoe?”
Morph probably should have felt more shy and awkward about this, but, well,
he didn't. He wanted to kiss Vanessa and this was a perfect opportunity.
For tradition's sake if nothing else. "Yep! Are you going to sit
underneath it?" He waggled his eyebrows a little as he held it up and over
her. He'd give her time to object!
Vanessa wasn’t going to object! No way, no how. She would have already been puckering up if she didn’t want to seem too eager. But that was the last thing she wanted to seem was too eager or to give her away her utter lack of experience in this forum.
She shifted a little, glancing up at the mistletoe, so that she was perfectly centered under it, then looked back to Kevin, grinning. “Now you’re going to have to kiss me.”
“That was my intention.” He grinned and leaned forward nervously. He wasn’t exactly Mr. Experience, not by a long shot. But he really wanted to do this, so he was willing to go for it. And after one more nervous smile, he pressed his lips against hers.
Ohgodohgodohgodohgod, he was kissing Vanessa.
“Just checking that you were---“ And then she stopped dead, going bug-eyed when he pressed his lips to hers. If ever there was a moment for squeeing, this was it, except she couldn’t very well squee when she was kissing Kevin.
…Well, she could, but that’d be weird.
Luckily, she was so excited that she wasn’t worried about whether or not she was doing the kissing thing right.
At least Kevin wouldn’t know if she was doing it right. It felt good? That was enough. He’d probably just laugh if she squeed, and squeeing and laughing while kissing probably wasn’t a productive idea.
He pulled back after a moment, a little breathless with a wide smile. “Man, I love Christmas.”
Vanessa couldn’t help but giggle a little at that statement and couldn’t hold back her own grin. “Why don’t… you turn out the lights, I’ll turn on the movie, and we can… pretend we’re watching Monty Python.” And hope none of the younger kids came stampeding through the common area.
And assuming he wanted to kiss her more. But he was smiling so she took that as a good sign.
