"Sure, no problem. C'mon in, I'll show you what I got worked out already," he said, gesturing for her to go into the workshop ahead of him. Coffee now would have been good since he was starting to feel exhausted yet again. Coffee and a cigarette would have been even better, but he didn't mind putting it off for a while longer.
"I couldn't build anything definite just yet because I don't know your measurements. Don't want you having a hand that's far too loose or far too tight, y'know? Either way, you'd wind up with blisters on the stump and that's something you don't want. I got a couple of things already worked out, so it shouldn't take too long to build the basic frame once I find out what size it needs to be. Take my seat, it'll be more comfortable than the edge of the desk."
It was lucky that he wouldn't need anything to make a cast of her stump to work on, since he wasn't sure if he could get a hold of any of the materials he'd need. He hadn't needed to with his own prosthesis, he just knew what way it needed to be when he was building it, and there was no reason why Val's hand should be any different. All he needed to do was look at it.
