She sounded like a coward and she was hurting Aubrey's feelings, but the trouble was, she had a damn point and that meant that Aubrey couldn't just be needlessly angry with her for not seeing the relative genius in his plot to keep her here. He couldn't deny the fact that America was fucked up, because it was, and she had no real need to stay here apart from her friends at the school. Oh, and him. And if he wasn't important enough to happily marry, then what was the point of staying away from her family? He clearly didn't take precedence in this situation and he knew it.

He was upset with the idea of losing her, he was frustrated with the fact that decisions like this had to be made. Staying in America wasn't safe for her, she'd have better luck in Australia with her family. But it was far from him and he wanted her here. He couldn't have her here. Go home, finish college in Australia. Stay there and stay safe.
