log: Optic and Drake
Who: Kasey Gibson and Aubrey Ryan Where: Aubrey's room When: backdated to Christmas What: Since the world sucks, they didn't buy presents for one another. So they just curl up and act super cheesy.
Kasey felt like a bad girlfriend. Ever since the attack, she had been withdrawn, rarely leaving her room or talking to other people. Including Aubrey. Including on Christmas. She barely remembered it was Christmas, in fact. Everything had just been too crazy. The country was practically imploding, and as opposed to some people, she felt not in the mood for partying.
She was sort of letting Aubrey down.
But she at least made an effort to see him. That was a start. She even dressed up in a sleek black dress that contrasted well to her scales. He always did seem to like her scales. Knocking just out of habit, she then opened his door just a crack. "Aubrey? Mate?" She poked her head inside.
Aubrey was sitting at his computer, as usual, typing. He was dressed in his boxers and a hooded sweatshirt that was far too big for him, taking the occasional sip of coffee or a bite of cookie. Thanks to Elvyran and plenty of time to heal, he was looking good, but that didn't mean he wasn't shaken. He was a good deal shaken, especially by Jarrod's murder. Jarrod had been a good friend of his, or as good as they could have been for the short while they'd known each other. And then Hank being attacked... it was scary.
He didn't hear the knock, but he caught sight of the light coming in through the doorway and he lifted his head just in time to see Kasey. Grinning wanly, he lifted a hand to wave.
It hadn't been easy, had it? Aubrey had been so much closer to Jarrod, and Kasey had barely been there for him when the news struck. Well, she was going to be here tonight.
Smiling a bit wider, she entered the room, shutting the door behind her. Waving, she walked over to wear he sat, leaning against the arm of the chair. An arm went across his shoulder as she broke off a bit of his cookie. Cheeky. "Merry Christmas, love."
She.. looked good. Aubrey was going to sign as much, except she stole his cookie, and he swatted her lightly on the shoulder instead. Kissing the spot where he'd smacked her, his smile was optimistic but rather sad. Merry Christmas, he signed, reaching up to touch her cheek. You look beautiful.
"Thank you," she smiled back, tucking her hair absently behind her hair. Nervously. "I'm, uh...I didn't get you anything...sorry." She dropped her eyes and bit her lip nervously. Wow, what a first Christmas together.
Aubrey blinked, raising his eyebrows, and then he spread his hands uselessly. I completely forgot, with all that's been happening, he lied. And then: No. No, to be honest, I've been scared to go out.
Kasey sighed and then leaned down to hug him. Pulling back up, slowly and reluctantly, she got far enough away so he could read her lips. "It sucks. I don't entirely blame you..." She shuddered a little at the memory. "It's not very Christmasy, eh?"
Aubrey shook his head, touching her cheek, tracing his fingertips across her lips. It wasn't very Christmasy, but what were they supposed to do? I don't want to be scared, he signed. I'm embarrassed to be scared, but... I am... and... He knew she couldn't understand everything but it was more than obvious how he felt. I've never been so scared in my entire life. Shit like that doesn't happen to me. So I'm trying to play it off but I don't want to go outside, especially after Jarrod.. after Hank..
"I know," she whispered, a hand absently playing with his hair. Slipping down, she sat in his lap, holding him close. The atmosphere wasn't merry or bright or anything like it was supposed to be. There was just too much pain. "We can't give up, though..." she spoke against his chest, not thinking about if he could see her.
It didn't matter if he understood her. He held her, forgoing signing for a while, just content to be with her, with someone who understood what was going on between them. He nuzzled her, leaned down to kiss her ear. His breath was warm, and without knowing it he made a soft, comforting little sound.
She liked the feeling of being held, and Lord knows she liked the sounds he made. They were rare, and that made them special. Tilting her head, she leaned to give him a kiss. It was all she could offer him this Christmas.
Aubrey kissed her back, tracing his fingertips over her scales. The world was going to hell, they were scared, they were upset.. but in the end, the most important thing was that they'd found each other, right?
Christmas presents be damned. Just being with her was enough of a gift.
