When Logan wasn't teaching gym or off rescuing scarred blue elves with a bunch of little kids, he was usually outside. Just like Scott Summers found solace working on cars in the garage, Logan found his peace outdoors, doing the hard labor that no one else really wanted to do. He took care of the grounds----and there was a lot of land to take care of. He mowed the lawn, he tended the gardens, he trimmed hedges, he kept rats out of the school basement. This summer he was planning on repainting the boathouse, since most of the greyish-blue paint was weathered and peeling. The dock needed a new coat of waterproof sealer to keep it from cracking.
In winter, Logan was left without a lot to do. Snow covered the grounds, the gardens were frozen over, and there was nothing to do apart from clear dead branches. Spring was here, but nothing had really grown, so he spent his time preparing the soil for growth. Fertilizing lawns, that kind of thing. It gave him an excuse to be outdoors, away from everyone. As much as he'd come to care for the other people at the school, he was still a loner, and being in a space that was constantly full of other people was against his nature.
So, he'd taken time outside today, taking a long walk around the school grounds, maybe beyond, through the woods and across the field that was the backyard. It wasn't terribly hot that day but the sun was bright with the sky clear, and would have burned anyone else. Instead, Logan's skin started to heal over the moment it began to dry out and turn red. Burned or not, the sun was hot, and the lake was cold. Way too cold for swimming, but that was fine by him. Logan really didn't swim. The adamantium skeleton kept it from being an enjoyable experience. Nonetheless, the sun was hot, the water was cold, and that meant that Logan left his boots and his clothes on the edge of the lake before he waded naked into the water, splashing himself and feeling the cold diffuse the heat of his skin.
Felt better than any hot shower he'd taken, that was for sure. The silence, the solitude, the awareness that he was outdoors----that was where he wanted to be. Get a little time to himself to think about what had happened with Magneto, with... everything. With Kurt, poor guy. Tougher than Logan thought he was. Speaking of tough... his kids that he took on the mission sure knew how to pull a punch or two. And Tommy. He was underestimating everyone these days. He'd have to stop making assumptions.
