Once bitten, twice shy, Vertigo had lost her hand to Remy's pinkish blasts, and the moment she saw them coming at her she stopped using her powers and tried to get back. But she couldn't. The first just barely hit her foot and she flipped backward, keeping her hands on the guns----losing one as the second card just barely hit her left hand and caused her to shriek in a panic. She came full out of the flip, the third card missing, and crouched where she was she thought she was through with them----until that fourth one came at her face. It hadn't been aimed to hurt her, but she didn't know that.
It exploded and Vertigo ducked, shielding her face with her hands. Sure, it was enough to distract her, enough to scare her----but it was also enough for her to start firing at him.
She didn't like to kill her old friends. No matter what Remy had done to her----yeah, she wanted to hurt him, but they'd known one another for years and the idea of actually getting the chance to kill him when she was looking him in the eye was pretty hard to deal with. She wasn't a complete psycho.
