It wasn't so much that Helio was resistant to blasts - rather, light-speed impact wasn't as great when the object it hit was already moving at super-sonic speeds. As long as Julius kept moving, the guy with the visor couldn't do him too much damage. Not that taking that kind of a blow had been fun, but -- this was combat, not the time to stop and whine about bruises.
That having been said, the flying mutant wasn't exactly keen to take another blast head-on; and so he waited until the mutant was distracted by the bloodied woman before swooping down from behind and catching him under the arms. Let the X-Man try to blast him, while Helio was holding him twenty feet in the air.
