The beam hit hard - but there were certain advantages to being weightless, and being able to move at supersonic speeds; Julius couldn't outrun the beam, no. And he couldn't avoid it, or do anything about the fact that he'd just been punched in the gut by the hardest thing he'd ever felt. If he hadn't started to run away the instant he heard a voice, he probably would have been out for the count.
As it was, the long-haired man went flying backwards, spinning seemingly out of control until he was a speck in the sky - before he sent a blast of wind down at the man who'd so rudely interrupted him, hoping to at the very least knock him off his feet.
