Narrative/Thread: Nightcrawler Who: Kurt Wagner (along with Hank McCoy, Father Zeckhausen, and any of the X-Men who came along, if anyone wants to tag this) When: Late evening, Saturday, January 12, 2008 Where: St. Patrick's Church, North Salem What: St. Patrick's has been bombed.. after the initial panic has died, Kurt is considering the damage.
The damage was immense.
The old church was half reduced to rubble, and though the fire had been put out smoke still billowed up from the ruins. Ambulances had come and gone, Elvyran's healing techniques had helped the most critically injured, and Kurt had done his best to free people who had been trapped under fallen timbers. There were four people dead, sixteen injured... all thanks to one bomb. The Friends of Humanity were behind it, Kurt was sure of that. Saint Patrick's had been a target ever since it had been the epicenter of the virus known as Stilton's Disease. Targeting only humans, it had wiped out thousands of people across the country. The church spread a message of equality, of kindness toward mutants. Easter of 2005 had made it a news headline with a "miracle" of images of Jesus and the angels coming to life -- an event caused by Tarot, not any act of God. Anti-mutant activists had every reason to attack the church if they had a few screws loose.
Kurt sat on the front steps, hugging his knees and staring off across the ground, just barely seeing Detective Porter taking a statement from Father Zeckhausen, who was bleeding from a gash above his eye. The image inducer was off, revealing Kurt in all his blue, terrifying, elfish glory----it had scared plenty of people but Kurt hadn't cared. They had bigger things to worry about.
What in the world were they coming to? Kurt knew that they could only take it one step at a time, but it seemed like all of the odds were against them. Magneto's reign caused immense amounts of trouble, and they had mutants as well as humans who were looking to kill for vengeance now.. and attacking a church full of people who were praying for peace? That was the final straw.
It was a rare thing, but Kurt was blindingly angry.
