A hint of annoyance flashed across the man's face when John spotted the stranger making her way towards him, and when she collapsed to the ground the Sheriff let out a soft sigh. This was supposed to be his private time; his chance to just stretch his legs while picking up some fresh eats for later. However the tiny young woman had managed to muck it up for him in the blink of an eye. Oh there was no rush to check on her; no sudden look of concern or worry. If anything the big man just pondered leaving her to die there, since the girl wasn't one of the townsfolk.
In his experience outsiders meant trouble; especially wounded ones like her. Hell with his luck Kayden figured she was either a thief on the run, or someone being chased down by raiders...which meant raiders could be on their way to town now. Leaving her corpse for them to find was a feasible solution. One less mouth to feed, one less person to have to look out for an protect. Just snapping her neck and giving the girl a quick painless death would've been a mercy for sure, and it could save the town from dealing with more woes down the road. However as pragmatic as he could be, and as ruthless too, Bear tended to save the killing to his interactions with raiders. After a moment of considering things he finally drew closer to where she had fallen. Not bothering to check on her just yet, but instead focusing on searching the girl and her backpack for any weapons. When none were found the big man just picked her up at last; throwing the young woman over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.
Oh it was tempting to be sure; just to walk a bit further into the wasteland and dump her there away from town. Still instead of heading away from Carter, John turned and began walking back home. Only stopping when he reached the makeshift sheriff station at last; after dropping her onto the cot in the jail cell, and taking her backpack away for further inspection later, the man returned with clean bandages and some water. From what her could see she was already on the mend, so after cleaning the wound and wrapping it up the mountain of a man just left water beside the cot. With the cell door closed and locked behind him Bear moved to grab a seat in his favorite chair; turning his attention to cutting and cleaning the snakes he had collected...while keeping an eye on the new 'guest' of Carter.
