Journal entry 1-- March 3rd
On days such as this, I have great concern for the future. I was witness to the most peculiar exchange in the park today.
While dinning in my favorite breakfast nook, I happen to spy a young, though goliath, gentleman with his lady, who was in a family way and far along enter. They ordered a pair of large breakfasts, nad were quietly conversing about something. They were quietly conversing with each other when I saw a boy, perhaps aged 4 or 5, running up to the lady and proceeds to half shrieks, half inquires, "why are you so fat".
The gent searched for the child's mother, who was occupied with her cellphone a short distance away. The lady, to her credit, appeared far more amused and perplexed than anything while very carefully giving a neutral response about her status. The boy made a confused, and rather amusing, face before taking off toward his mother's side with a large grin. I thought nothing more of it, returning to my meal for a time when I then witness the following. Please excuse the formatting of the exchange, but I feel this allows for an easier read.
Mother of boy: Why did you tell my son babies come from women's bellies? Lady: because it's true? Mother of boy: that's not what I wanted him to know! Gentleman: Well to be fair, we didn't tell him anything. he came to that conclusion on his own. my wife just said she is growing a baby
In the next moment, the boy proceeds to hit the lady's belly. The lady immediately attempted to push the child away from he while her husband, as I found out, couldn't fully process what had happened. To his credit, neither could I.
Mother of boy: how dare you push my son?! He's a good boy! Lady: How dare your son hit my bump you crazy bitch! (Apologies for crass language but it is what she said and not inaccurate) Mother of Boy: It didn't hurt, see?
Imagine my, and the lady's, surprise when the mother then proceeds to then proceeds to slap the lady's belly. The gentleman finally stood up, and while he was rage
Gentleman: Fuck off Mother of boy: How dare you speak to me like that
The woman reeled back as if to slap the gentleman, which was a feat in itself as the gent had to be about six feet or greater in height. However, the gent managed to grab her wrist. He started to squeeze. I stood up to intervene as between the child's crying and the mother screaming that he was hurting her, though please note that I was certain he was controlled in his rage. Before I could get anywhere, the lady coaxed her husband into letting the mother go, and the pair leave, the mother pulling her child behind her with her 'uninjured' arm. The pair were all right. I paid for my meal and theirs. While I was chatting with the staff just before leaving, I noticed two officers along with the mother and her child had returned. The mother is screaming about how the lady attacked her son and the gentleman nearly broke her arm. To his credit, he owned up to what had happened but explained it was only after the child had slapped her belly and the mother had followed the example, and then tried to slap him. The officers seemed pleased by this.
Officer: Did you honestly expect me to believe a man and a pregnant woman came out of nowhere and attacked you and your son unprovoked, and for no clear reason? Do you want to press any charges?
The lady declined, and the officers escorted her away from the pair as the manager had now stepped in to say that the mother and child were banned. After this I left, please to see some measure of justice achieved.
