Hermione laughed, "I understand, I'm the same way. You don't have to do all that."
Having already eyed the Quick Quotes with suspicion (she didn't trust them, not even for school notes. Especially not for school notes. But that's far beside the point), she relaxed, "You don't have to go as far as all that, I trust you." And she did. Hannah was, after all, a Hufflepuff and as much as Hermione did hate to stereotype, all the Hufflepuffs she'd ever met were trust-worthy, and Hannah seemed more so than most.
Stalling for time, she pretended to need a lot of thought to order her lunch, when really she was debating with herself just how much information she should divulge. Everything about Rita, of course, but she wasn't exactly proud of how she'd handled things, when she was fourteen and protecting Harry. The proper authorities certainly could have taken care of things, but dammit, you really couldn't trust the Ministry for much back then and that vindictive side of her had really taken over.
After settling on a salad (what she'd wanted all along), Hermione looked at Hannah's eager face and decided she should really be completely honest. And hope the other girl wouldn't judge too harshly. Or for that matter, publish anything too disgraceful about herself. "Well, it started during the Triwizard Tournament when that... hag was writing all those terrible lies about Harry." She explained how she had come to the conclusion, then lowering her voice, she broke the news, "She's an animagus. An unregistered animagus, actually."
