Susan studied the package she had received. It was a plain book about the size of her hand though it was very thick. The pages were beginning to yellow and curl. She would have to look up a preserving charm or something. Opening the cover she found a single piece of parchment written in what she immediately recognized as her aunt's tidy script.
1 June 1996 Dearest Susan, I may be throwing a mystery into your lap. If so I am so very sorry, especially after you have probably just taken part in a large battle or begun you career of choice. Unfortunately, I doubt your Father will speak to you about this and so the duty falls to me. Your father is a good man Susan, never doubt that, and he only wants to protect you.
I have endeavored to train you well enough that should the time come when most of us have gone on, you will be able to discover and protect a work that has defined our family for generations. I am afraid it is too dangerous to tell you more all in one place so I leave you with this journal and a suggestion that you go back to your roots. I am sorry to place this burden on you but it must be done. You have the best of all of us Suze, your parents' brains, my courage, and your own ethics, try not to doubt so much. Please be careful this may not be a safe hunt I have sent you on.
