RP: Harry makes his final decision
Date: 3 December 1999 (FORWARD DATED) Characters: Harry Potter, Ginny Weasley Location: Diagon Alley, to the Burrow Warnings: None Summary: Harry runs a few errands makes some discoveries and comes to a final decision Open/Closed: Closed Status: Complete Harry decided to go to Gringotts after his meeting with Kingsley. He was shown to the Potter Vault instead of his trust and afer telling the Goblin he might be a while, slipped in to look around. He pulled out two shrunnken creats, enlarged them and began filling them with books. He suddenly wanted to know as much as he could about his family and thought they probably had read tons of interesting books if they were anything like the stories he had heard of his dad.
As he had moved a trunk aside he saw a familiar looking stone basin. After blowing off the dust he grinned. This might just help him. He added it to his pile, shrunk the crates again and left the Vault thanking the Goblin on his way out.
Returning to the burrow he settled himself to review his memories. There was something nagging at him that Kingsley had said. After reviewing the conversation he considered a moment before he began adding his memories of his sessions with Dumbledore in 6th year.
He viewed them with a lump in his throat, but somehow he knew Dumbledore would be proud of him for this. Finally, he found the one he was looking for. Dumbledore was talking to him about the prophecy.
"Yes--just love, said Dumbledore. But Harry Never forget that what the prophecy said is only significant because Voldemort made it so." The memory sped by. "You are protected in short by your ability to love." Dumbledore's voice went on, "Got to of course you've got to! But not because of the prophecy, because you, yourself, will never rest until you've tried!
The memory continued as Dumbledore explained that Voldemort set store by the phrophecy so it would end up fulfilled in some way.
As he exited the memory Harry remembered his own thoughts during that time. And suddenly he saw the difference clearly.
He wasn't marked this time. There wasn't pressure from anyone but himself, not from a mad dark wizard and certainly not from the ministry.
He sat down hard on the bed. Merlin.
His stomach lurched but he saw it as a good sign. What had he almost done? And like that his decision was made.
Some time later he penned a note to Ginny.
Ginny,
I am writing this out because I am not sure of the potion. I'm dropping the idea to go into pureblood society. I realise now that it wasn't a well thought out decision. It's just different than before. With Voldemort even if I had turned my back on everything he would still have pursued me. The decision wasn't mine to make. He made it my fight because he believed it to be.
Now there is no pressure from anyone but myself. I guess I put it there because life feels almost...empty without it. Anyway thank you for helping me see that it isn't the answer. I'm not sure what should fill the space, but I am going to be looking for it.
Always, Harry
P.S. I have an idea for our next outing let me know when you have an evening free if you still want to go.
He left it on her pillow with a daisy on top and went to examine the books he had found.
