"Yes, well," Draco responded shortly to the woman's ranting, "it is time for a change for the Malfoy line, as you might well be aware." Closing that subject off with his clipped tone, Draco glanced over at Ginny when she gave her very automatic response, and moved one arm to slowly wrap around her waist in comfort. "As her escort here, it would only be highly appropriate for me to escort her to any other functions similar, including this tea of yours. As you well know, many believe that the Weasley side of your family are not so keen when it comes to the standard traditions, Lady Prewitt. I mean no offense, but as her escort, I take it as part of my own responsibility to see to it that she only receives the best education in this perspective." His tone had hardened a little, almost becoming protective as he spoke of Ginny.
At the mention of the ball, Draco stiffened briefly. It wouldn't due for him to accept an invitation for the Malfoys without consulting his father, and this woman was now treating him like he was the head of the household--with her boldness. "With all due respect, Lady Prewitt, it would be my father who would respond to that sort of invitation, and only upon receiving official word from an authority figure in the government or a personal invitation that our family would be welcomed at such an event. We are charitable enough, as my father has served on the board of Governors for Hogwarts for years now, of course. I do, however, find it commendable that you are dedicating your time to helping the hospital." Again, Draco had both complimented, and insulted the woman, all the while keeping a broad smile on his features as he did so.
His arm tightened possessively around Ginny, however, wanting this woman to know that she wouldn't go anywhere in pureblood society without his assistance in the manner, especially when it came to these Prewitts.
