"What do you mean you don't know," Kingsley looked from the Auror to the report and back.
"Sir there were no magical sifgnitures it must have been a rash hit of magical energy. It was the department of Mysteries after all," the voicewas pompus, defensive, and the Auror was leaning ofver Kingsley, "Besides you can't release a report to the public, they'll panic..." He trailed off as kingsley shoved back his chair and stood.
"Why in the name of Merlin wouldn't I need to release a report to the public, or have you forgotten that it is they who put me here and that it is they to whom I answer."
"But sir prior Ministers...."
"Enough," Kingsley's voice had dropped to a low but even more dangerous tone. "Previous Ministers did nothing to stop Voldemort and his followers. They have the blood of innocents on their hands. I have enough blood on my hands from two wars and I refuse to have more."
The Auror seemed to get bravado from somewhere, "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is dead Sir," his voice wavering slightly.
"And yet you obviously still fear him," said Kingsley with a trace of pity, "If you fear to say his name. I will be speaking to your immediate superior about the thoroughness of your work and doing another investigation myself. If I find things missing from your report actions will be taken."
"Are we understood Auror."
"Yes sir."
Then that is all.
With a glare that Kingsley pretended not to notice the man turned and left.
Kingsley made his way down the hall muttering to the quill and parchment beside him. He took notes and pictures of the cordoned off section that the workers had noticed. At least someone had done something right. Then he went upstairs to extract his memory of the upstairs fire and put together his presentation. Obviously things weren't as peaceful as they had all though and the Aurors were woefully under skilled. he was going to change that starting with this class of trainees.
