Who: Ben
When: 26th February
Where: Tucson, Arizona
What: Ben's pondering moving on again
It shouldn't rain tonight, thought Ben as he made his way from the Rodeo Grounds. He hadn't intended staying in Tucson quite so long, but then he hadn't realized that the Fiesta de los Vaqueros was going to be on in Tucson this week.
His knowledge of rodeos was fairly small, and he suspected it wasn't nearly so good as it used to be, but he'd hung around to watch, saving his money by going Wolf and sleeping in quiet corners and deserted buildings instead of bothering with hotels. It wasn't uncomfortable, not with his thick Arctic coat, and it was a habit he'd gotten into a while back. Nobody would want to risk stealing his bag when he was guarding it - at least no human would.
That was the problem, he continued thinking. For all that the Night World held sway now, most places he ended up were saturated in humans. Not that he didn't like them - hell, he almost married one until the Night fuckers had torn her apart and left her strewn around the house for him to find, as if he couldn't have smelled her blood LONG before he saw why the smell was so strong.
He shook his head, banishing the memory of Sara's staring-but-never-seeing-again eyes from his brain and forced himself to think about the week's events. He'd enjoyed the rodeo more than he'd thought he would, considering he was only spectating. The ProRodeo he'd seen this afternoon had been a good end to the day's events. Now he just wanted a drink, a steak and a quiet place somewhere.
He hadn't seen anyone who struck him as a potential Daylighter - not that he exactly expected them to wear nametage, but he just felt he'd Know if he saw one. But then, nobody had noticed his pendant either or, if they had, nobody had commented on it.
Ah well. Rodeo ended Sunday. He'd head for somewhere else once it was over. Might as well see it through to the end now. Besides, Monday was a good day to be starting for somewhere else. Couldn't hurt to kill some more time. He liked Tucson. He might even come back someday.
