She stiffened as the events of the day came crashing back down on her shoulders. Her options flashed through her mind. She could refuse to acknowledge that there was anything to talk about or she could just leave and likely destroy their relationship in the process or she could use her Unspeakable training to Obliterate his memory of the bruise on her face. The first wouldn't work. The second would hurt worse than any bruise. And the last was unthinkable.
Drawing a deep breath, she took the only option left to her. "Bruise salve won't work," she said in tones that were carefully neutral and empty. "Thank you for the offer." Protective instincts that had been honed over years of dealing with volatile personalities had her moving to the other side of the island without conscious thought being invoked.
