"Don't go," he whispered thickly. Josiah leaned into her solid strength - needing her as an emotional and physical anchor in a way that he'd never needed anyone else.
He didn't know how long it took, but finally he managed to unknot his muscles enough that he could wrap his arms around her in return. "None of this feels real," he said, a bewildered, heartbroken tone threaded through his every word. "It doesn't make any sense. But it makes less sense to think that Dad lied and that the boys are play-acting." He allowed himself the momentary luxury of burying his face in James' hair and breathing her in.
But there was work to be done which meant he couldn't take time for himself for very long. He'd finish breaking down later. "Could you stay here? Be here in case the boys wake up? I need to go to the MLE and find out what happened."
