"You're likely right," Terry sighed. Running off was still what he wanted to do at the bottom of his heart, but he knew he couldn't abandon his friends or Susan like that.
Drawing a deep breath, he pushed the little boy he'd been only a few months ago into the box at the back of his mind where he stayed. It was time to take up the load once more. He'd wallowed enough.
Terry stood slowly, letting the stiff places in his legs and back stretch back out, and then he tucked Susan into his side. "Are we going to be needed tonight?" he asked.
