Alicia closed her eyes, as if that would protect her from him actually saying those words out loud. She'd known it, of course, somewhere deep down. She hadn't let herself acknowledge it, but part of her had known for a very long time.
And more than part of her wanted to accept it. To let it be that simple. To believe that they could move seamlessly from being Quidditch buddies and best mates to being something so much more. But what about when she made a mess of things? Oliver might think he'd still be her best friend no matter what now. But she hadn't done something to hurt him yet.
She opened her eyes again. "If... if we did this, you'd have to promise me that no matter what I do or what I say, you won't stop being my friend. Promise. Because that would kill me, Oliver. I can't lose anymore of my friends."
