Charlie clapped her on the back like one of the boys and Meaghan felt a little part of her die. Of course, a mate, what would be wrong with that. She laughed a bit nervously and said, "Yes, too long. But you look great. If that's what chasing dragons does for you, I should have taken that up instead of the rings. I was always a bit crap in Magical Creatures though, so it probably wouldn't have worked so well, still..." she trailed off, realizing she was babbling. She stuffed her hands in her pockets and glanced at her shoes, which we thankfully rather smart. She looked back up in time to see his sheepish grin, and her heart melted again. Bugger all, she thought, pressing her lips together a bit before replying.
"no one could put you to shame. You were brilliant even as a 3rd year. If I thought we could persuade you to come back, I'd say you should come out for Portree. Course, I have little power in things yet. Not officially Captain until end of the season, despite being here. We should fly sometime though, for old times sake," she added, smile widening. What she really wanted to do was snog him senseless, but given that they were standing amid his friends and family and she had never done a thing like that in her life, she thought it wise to suppress the desire.
"Hey, um...do you think your family could spare you? I'd love a walk on the old grounds, if you wouldn't mind joining me..." she asked. It was probably the boldest Meaghan had ever been sober, but she wanted to get him alone, even if all he was going to do was clap her on the back some more.
