WHO: James and Lily WHEN: Tuesday Evening, after they're both off work WHERE: Godric's Hollow WHAT: It's Valentine's Day. And James and Lily like each other. RATING: PG...for now. Depends on how good James was with his present. STATUS: in progress
James considered Valentine's the one day every year that he actually got to surprise his wife. Christmas had to be something heart felt, but not flashy. Her birthday she dropped hints—lots of hints. But Valentine's Day was all his, to do as he pleased. To be as ridiculous, surprising, or amazing as he wanted to be. It was the holiday he put the most thought into (April Fools aside).
Dinner was set. He'd left after her that morning and started up a yellow curry that he left simmering in a cauldron above a control fire. The house smelled lightly of lemongrass, garlic, and ginger. He'd magicked a pot to take care of the rice (he was rubbish at cooking it without the Perfect Rice charm. Whichever stay at home witch concocted that little incantation was a lifesaver!) and spent his time setting the table. Steering away from pink, he set the table with a maroon table cloth, orange plates, and cream cloth napkins. He kept the champagne chilled in a bucket on the edge of the table. It was a fit Valentine's dinner.
Now for the present. "Midnight, you're sure we got the right one?" He looked down at his black lab, who panted and wagged his tail, and had the Treats?? look on his face. Well, he always had that look on his face. James fed him a fake piece of bacon. Once swallowed, he barked in the affirmative. Then all attention was lost. Midnight's ears went back, his head raised to the door, and he took off to greet his mummy. James took a deep breath before placing her present on her chair and went to greet her.
