WHO: Lily and Harry WHEN: Sunday, late evening WHERE: The Potters house, Godric's Hollow WHAT: Harry's home late RATING: PG STATUS: Complete
It was the first full day of her son's spring break and Lily hadn't see Harry at all. She wasn't normally a late sleeper, but it was the weekend and she was honestly trying to take it easy and that meant not hurrying about in the morning. But that didn't really excuse the fact that she hadn't seen her son since he got home. She hadn't even met him at the train station this time, at his request of course. He was nearly an adult, after all -- was of age in their world, at least -- and she knew that meant he was fully capable of making it home on his own. It was just difficult for her to come to terms with it, Harry being her only son and all. It was hard to see him grow up like this.
She had anticipated that he would be home for dinner, so she'd set him a place. But then he hadn't and she and James had eaten in relative silence. After they were done, she sent James off next door to take the leftover banana pudding to Sirius and Al, and Lily set about working on the dishes. She could have cleaned them quickly with a flick of her wand, but she didn't. Instead, she did them by hand, trying to relax, humming to herself.
When she heard the door open, she smiled and glanced over her shoulder. "Jamie, dear, you're back quickly. I expected you and Sirius to decide on last minute April Fool pranks." He didn't answer right away, and she set her dishtowel down and leaned round to look down the hall. "Oh! Harry, sweetheart, I expected your father."
