Hermione rolled her eyes heavenward, lips pressed together to hold back a sigh. "It's our job, though," she pointed out, leaning against the wall next to the window. She studied him as he stared out the window, taking in his slumped shoulders and sullen reflection. She thought of his present burning a hole in her pocket and shifted a bit, debating if now would be the best time to give it to him. He certainly looked like he needed cheering up, and sulking into the window wouldn't solve anything.
"Go back?" Hermionr squeaked, brown eyes widening slightly in panic. They couldn't go backup the tower now; Seamus would kill her and the surprise would be ruined. She didn't want any snide remarks from the others about how she couldn't do a simple task and had failed the easiest task. "No. We can't go back right now. We- I still have to give you your present." She slipped her hand into her robes and pulled out a slim envelope and put it on the ledge next to him.
"Happy birthday for what it's worth," she said, tucking her hands back in her sleeves.
