The problem with submersing yourself in your work or your studies to avoid dealing with issues was just that - you never dealt with your issues. Theo had barely given himself any time to process what had happened in his and Daphne's relationship. He'd simply done what he always did - throw himself into something else head on. He hadn't truly had time to think things through, to absorb what had happened and to cope with it all, to figure out where he stood in the aftermath.
Combining all of that with the feelings that were still there for Daphne and what had happened at the hospital, Theodore felt more lost than ever as he listened to Daphne insist that she wasn't a good girlfriend and that he deserved better. He looked awkwardly at the floor - he could feel moisture pooling on the corners of his eyes. He couldn't cry about this - not now, not out in front of everyone. He sucked in a deep breath, his gaze on the hand that Daphne had placed on his arm by then.
"I miss you, too," he said, his voice shaking and barely audible. He jerked his head from side to side in disagreement with the last part of what he had to say. He had to make her understand - she had to know that she didn't deserve it. Without warning, he stepped forward, closing the gap between them and pressed his lips to Daphne's - finding them was easy, he and Daphne just fit together, perfectly, as they always had.
The whirl of emotions and thoughts in his head caused him to put quite a bit of passion behind that kiss, not to mention that he hadn't had real human contact since before she'd walked out of his flat at the beginning of the summer. Just as suddenly as it had begun, however, it was over and Theodore pulled away from Daphne, instantly dropping his hands from where he'd gripped her shoulders. He looked mortified by his actions and he placed a hand over his mouth. "Sorry, Daphne...I'm so sorry." Fuck. That wasn't fair to her at all. Not when he didn't have his own thoughts sorted out just yet.
"I'm sorry," he said quickly again, then turned on his heel and headed for the exit. Maybe Luna was right - he needed to take a short trip to clear his head and figure things out, it seemed.
