Penelope had been distracted all day, even more so than usual. With Remus away on holiday, she was minding the shop herself. It normally wasn't a task she minded much. In fact, she rather liked bustling around the book store, hands running over the shelves, knowing where each and every one of her friends were. But she had been distracted today.
There was a rumor that Terence was back and Penelope wasn't quite sure how to handle herself. On one hand she wanted to see if the rumor were true or not. On the other she didn't because he hadn't taken the time to seek her out. So she pushed the whole matter aside for other distractions such as the cookbook she had occupied herself with during the slow moments today.
Walking to the grocery store not that far from the bookshop, she looked over the list of ingredients for roast chicken and mashed potatoes she'd painstakingly copied out of How to Boil Water. The steps didn't seem too difficult and Penelope was adamant that she was going to have a home cooked meal that did not rely on either take away, something frozen, or something that did not require any cooking at all. She was going to cook dammit. That is, if she didn't finish the whole bottle of wine that was in her trolley before she ever got the bird in the oven.
Standing by the vegetables, Penelope picked up a courgette in one hand and an aubergine in the other, considering each. Which would go better with chciken and potatoes? Or should she forget both and opt for carrots? Or were potatoes enough? Or should she just forget the whole thing entirely and have a supper of wine and chocolate?
