WHAT: The 6th & 7th Year Muggle Studies class performs Romeo & Juliet
WHO: Hogwarts students, anyone who came to the castle for a day. Unfortunately, castle wards do prohibit the families of Muggleborn students from attending.
WHEN: Sunday, 3:00PM
WHERE: Hogwarts, Great Hall

Professor Burbage thought it was a good idea to put on Shakespeare, and of course she chose the most cliched play for school-age students -- Romeo and Juliet. The Great Hall is transfigured into a stage and small auditorium. The costumes are a strange mismatch of Muggle and magical, but at least the time period is right. The show goes off fairly well, excepting a mishap with the fake blood during Mercutio's death scene and the fact that the balcony wobbled and creaked. Also, someone had stage fright and got sick just off stage (if it was you, own up to it!). Otherwise, everyone enjoyed it and probably laughed at the funny and the not-supposed-to-be-funny bits.

ETA: Apparently some Slytherins decided to convince Peeves to throw rotten vegetables at the stage, so the play was interrupted fora time just before Act III.

Feel free to comment below if your character attended, or, of course, if your character was in the show. Feel free to thread below or start threads outside of this entry.

Ginny was there, of course. Even though she complained about it a good bit, she was a pretty good Juliet, especially in the final scenes. How much in love Juliet was with Romeo at the beginning is up for question because it took her a while to warm up to it and really sell it - but she wasn't the huge disaster she thought she'd be. She's got acting skills, sure, but no desire to be a professional.

Afterwards she would have naturally stuck around to talk to her parents/siblings/friends, and done her best to keep Ron distracted so George could run his mayhem. If anyone wants to thread with her after the show, just tell me. :)

Megan saw the show, as promised. She had a lot of fun watching her friends perform, and was glad that she wasn't up there. She sat with Dani (Jane, y/y?) She probably frowned a little when people laughed at things that weren't supposed to be funny, especially if the actor seemed uncomfortable. She definitely cried at the end, and then promptly lied to anyone who asked about being wussy enough to cry.

YES Dani sat with her. Though she totally did her best attempt at ~subtely looking at Oliver once or twice, cough. Megan got LOTS OF HUGS when she cried, and Lisa and any ofther of Dani friends got GRATUITOUSLY LOUD CHEERS.

ALTHOUGH the inability of muggle family visiting is not sitting well with her and she WILL rant about this BS when I'm not getting read for work, yo.

Alice was so excited. Not only would she get to see her son act, but she would get to see him STAR in one of the most famous plays ever written. She was beyond excited to drag Augusta and Frank to the show, and showed up an hour early, snapping photos all the while of Neville and his friends getting ready. She's forever proud of her son, and this was just one more reason. Not to mention that she wouldn't be seeing him over the Hogsmeade weekend, thanks to her mini-break plans, so she was happy she could see Neville anyway.

Part way through the show, Peeves interrupted the proceedings by throwing rotten vegetables on the stage. Alice, being an auror and rather quick on her feet, grabbed her wand and stunned him, but not before she caught three students in the back with umbrellas, protecting themselves from the onslaught. Her eyes narrowed. How would those three know that an umbrella would help them unless they knew something would happen. She marched to the back of the audience and grabbed the trio by the collar.

"You messed with the wrong person's child," she said icily, before yanking them up and bringing them to McGonagall. "Minerva, I think these three might have a little knowledge about this incident," she said pointedly, pushing the three forward. She didn't know the two girls, but she immediately recognized the boy as being Malfoy's son Draco. Of course he would be involved. It was with a bit of satisfaction that she turned them over to Minerva's ire.

Tracey swatted at Alice's hands when the woman had the audacity to pick her up by her collar. She kicked and fought against Alice, giving her a rather incredulous look. "I didn't realize they let the mentally ill in here to see the play. I've no idea what you're referring to, you batty old hag."

When Alice pushed them toward McGonagall, Tracey gave the professor a rather petulant look. "We merely conjured umbrellas after Peeves started throwing rubbish. See?" She started conjuring umbrellas until they piled up on the floor in front of her Transfiguration professor.

She tried not to look too smug as she risked a sideways glance at Pansy and Draco to back her up.

Alice crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes at the girl and her conjured umbrellas. "Interesting," she said looking back at the girl who had called her a hag. She might be closing in on her 40s, but she was far from hag like, and the fact that this girl was apparently trying to shirk responsibility grated on her last nerve. "Well, considering you already had them out and open before you could get even a tomato stain, and the speed with which I stunned him, you either knew the attack was coming or you already had the umbrellas with you. In either case, I think Professor McGonagall will know how to handle you," she said with one last steely glare.

She flipped her hair back over her shoulder, brushing a banana peel off on her way, and returned to her seat next to Frank and Augusta, who gave her an appreciate nod. She made eye contact with and winked at Lily before sitting and waiting for the show to resume.

Draco scowled at the woman and yanked his arms away from her before brushing down his robes. "Or perhaps Hogwarts had taught us how to always be prepared for anything, including an onslaught of rotten vegetables, Mrs. Longbottom." he sneered. "Surely you were taught that in Defense when you were here so long ago?"

He shot her another scowl, ignoring her look. "As if I'd waste my time bothering with your dear son."

Pansy scowled at Alice as the woman half-dragged half pushed them towards McGonagall, delicately dabbing at the stinging on the back of her neck with a handkerchief, and trying to determine if that was tomato or blood on her neck as Tracey began conjuring umbrellas,

"That's right Professor, if Tracey hadn't thought quick like that we'd be covered in vegetables too," Pansy said, willing the budding smile to a lower lip tremble "And then this...this woman drags us out of our seats, I think she even scratched me," Pansy continued, holding up the stained handkerchief.

Theo would've made sure to sit far away from Pansy, Draco, and Tracey. He was actually interested in seeing the play and knew that those three would probably be up to no good. He, of course, saved a seat for Daphne as he'd promised her several weeks ago on the journals.

He cheered loudly for Lisa, looked disgusted when Peeves interrupted, and stood up with the rest of the crowd at the end to show his appreciation.

Daphne did join Theo and wasn't really surprised when he sat far away from Tracey, Pansy and Draco - especially since she knew what they were planning.

She surprisingly enjoyed the play, applauding those (except for Lisa and may have even given Theo a side-eye when he did) when needed. She couldn't help but shake her head when Mrs. Longbottom stormed to the back to gather up her friends.

All in all, she had fun.

Overall, Chris thinks the actors did a good job with their roles. He hated that his big scene was upstaged by rotten vegetables, even if his annoyance actually helped the anger of the scene seem more real.

Justin only forgot his lines once, and it was during one-liners and, luckily, not either his Queen Mab speech or his death scene. He did, however, end up with a whole in the tights he had to wear, so that was embarrassing.

He also may or may not have been the one to throw up offstage ...

Despite the fact that her son wasn't in the play, Lily absolutely loved the idea of going to see the show, and she couldn't think of anything better to do on a Sunday afternoon. She, like Alice, was very annoyed at Peeves, but when she saw Alice take care of it first, she stayed where she was.

Harry did his best to avoid his mother (and father if he was there?) and sat with his friends. He cheered for Ginny, Neville, and any other friends who were in the show. He glared at Peeves/the Sytherins who had the audacity to interrupt the whole thing, but since Mrs. Longbottom was handling it, he merely kept up with the dirty looks.

Not going to lie, he was probably doing some ducking/running/someone cover me. He's a normal teenaged boy and does not need his mother fussing over him.

Gerard wandered into the play about halfway through. He had been in the library beforehand doing some work before deciding to join everyone else to sit and watch. He also "covertly" sketched a few scenes, and if asked about it, he would explain that he wanted to try his hand at covering the story as a journalist.

He frowned at Peeves and the interruption but didn't say much about it, although his head did snap towards Tracey, Pansy and Draco as Mrs. Longbottom approached them. He said nothing, but he was clearly on the edge when it happened.

Penelope went to see the show as she thinks it's a brilliant idea. She also loves Shakespeare anytime she can see it performed. When in the interruption happened, Penelope was quite annoyed as she doesn't like it when people break the rules or don't have any sense of common decency.

After the play was finished, she sought out Dani with a tin of biscuits (that she didn't bake, don't worry Dani you won't be poisoned) and a book of wizarding fairy tales. She didn't hover, or stay long, but wanted to say hi.

Penny got a REALLY BIG HUG. Dani adored the biscuits and was very grateful for the book, and to spend a little while hanging out with her favourite former classmate and establishing an alibi.

Seamus went to the play, more to support his housemates and avoid his Potions homework than out of any great love for Shakespeare. All in all, he had a pretty good time (and Neville, you will be getting teased about those tights later, just so you know), even if it confirmed his suspicions that that kind of theatre wasn't really his thing.

He did enjoy the Slytherins getting their arses handed to them by Nev's mum though. A lot. He might have been heard laughing his head off when it happened.

Lisa was beyond excited for the play. She actually had a lot of fun dressing as a boy, and she had her grandma Ginger there to help with her make up. Her uncles Colin and Joseph where also there to watch and cheer her on.

She was PISSED about the vegetables and was more than little excited when she saw Slytherins getting in trouble (she will note it later to get back at them, she might have something plotting in her head now). She was happy to see her friends in the audience, like Dani, Theo (and Anthony?). She didn't mess up any lines, and though she could have over acted and tried to draw attention to herself, she was understated and quite good. She gave encouragement back stage to anyone who was nervous.

Hermione, as promised, was in the audience with her friends. She applauded loudly for Ginny and Neville during the final bows, and got a little bit misty-eyed during the tomb scene. She would have chalked it up to allergies if asked, and she was still seething about the Slytherins who had the audacity to convince Peeves to throw rotten vegetables at the students who had prepared diligently for weeks for the performance by the time they left. She would have stopped by and thanked Mrs. Longbottom for her fast handling of the distraction on her way out, apologizing for not acting as a proper Head Girl and reacting as fast. She would have left some choice remarks to the three as she left, chastising them for poorly representing the school in front of the guests and mocking what the muggle studies class had been preparing for ages.

Ron was there, dragged by Hermione. He did not want to see Ginny play Juliet, but he would've clapped in the right places. He rolled his eyes during the romantic scenes so much that he thought his eyes would fall out of his head. He gave Hermione a what-the-eff face and her very own eye roll when he saw her eyes misting over, laughing a little before nudging her arm. Ron is going to back Seamus up on the Neville-teasing re:tights, but also will give him a pretend talking-to about kissing his sister.

Terry went, he would have sat with his friends, and he saved a seat in case Embyr wanted to join him.
He cheered for his friends, and thought everyone was brilliant at their parts.
Though he was a bit put out by the rotting veggies he could appreciate the prank for its shock value and he may have tried to shelter Embry from veggie splat if she was sitting with him.

Hit him up if you want to thread after the show.
