Afterwards (Kevin/Open)
It didn't matter how many funerals or memorial services one attended in one's lifetime. These things never got easy. After the war, Kevin had to attend so many of these things. It was almost second nature by now to give ones condolences to the family and friends of the person who was departing. But... Kevin hadn't quite been on the side where he was considered family or friend. Not really. Not when the departed had been this close to him, had shared a dorm with him for six years.
And all throughout the service, the whole of those six years and years that came after that continued to flood over Kevin. At one point, he even had to grab a hold of his chair to keep himself from bursting into hysterical tears. Terry was a dear friend, as were all the Ravenclaws in the room. They had shared something special together in that Tower at Hogwarts, something they couldn't easily erase. Yet, it had been so easy to lose Terry to this stupid war. One moment he was there, and the next, he was gone. Just like that.
Despite it all, Kevin knew he had to be strong, at least for Mandy's sake. He knew that if she saw him cry, then she would lose it too. He was the rock. He was supposed to be strong for all of them, emotionally and physically. If he broke down now, there would be nothing else left to hold the rest of them together any more. Nothing but their mutual grief.
