Who: Neville Longbottom
What: Neville gets himself arrested. On purpose.
When: Sunday, after the book-burning
Where: DMLE, the Ministry
"A family with the wrong members in control; that, perhaps, is as near as one can come to describing England in a phrase."
That had been his last quote before getting arrested. He'd spent most of the bonfire reading out loud from the "unsuitable" books being burned before they'd been snatched from his hands, with a few measures of Muggle literature for good effect. The protest had gotten a little crazy by then, and the shoving had started; Neville wasn't sure which side had started it. He'd hurriedly found the quote, pulling the book from a pocket where he'd stashed it: a book of essays, with one by the famous (or infamous) George Orwell.
He'd known it would get him arrested. At least it was dramatic.
The hitwizards hadn't known what to do with him. His robes proclaimed clearly who he was, even if they hadn't wanted to believe a Wizengamot member had been at an anti-Ministry protest. There'd been some questioning and some threats, but there wasn't enough against him to brand him even as a civilian, and with the added authority... The most they could do was wait. He hadn't even had to pull out the parchment that was in his robes -a copy, with extra copies in his office and safe vault, with the original closely guarded though not off Ministry property. They'd searched him, but he had a little bit of privilege, and they'd let him keep it once they realized it wasn't magical. If anyone had read it, no one had commented.
Now he just had tonight to get through, and hope like hell that his gambit paid off.
