Mandy watched him, listening to the children nearby and the giggling. “I feel like shite.” she said honestly, a lopsided grin appearing on her face. “But you were right, I needed the sleep.” She propped her head up on her hand as she watched him, not quite uncomfortable but feeling a little awkward at their situation. “I’m sorry for showing up unexpectedly and for losing it.” She was embarrassed by her lack of restraint and her weakness. Mandy saw herself as a strong woman and falling apart was something she didn’t do.
She knew the children would be invading their space at any moment and she looked over her shoulder at the door. Looking back at him, she watched him for a moment and then without warning she leaned in and kissed him quietly. It wasn’t a flirtatious gesture, more of a thank you or an expression of her gratitude. Staring at him, her cheeks flushed after the sudden gesture, she cleared her throat quietly. “Want me to make breakfast?” She hated that she always second guessed herself where he was concerned. Most of the time she felt inadequate next to him and the way he could compose himself while she fell apart regularly.
