She heard him come in and tried her best not to curl in on herself. She closed her eyes, hoping she could somehow turn around and look good as new. She flinched slightly when his hand touched her back, even though she knew he was coming. She moved slowly, turning around and sitting up. She kept her gaze down, wiping her face quickly to try and make herself more presentable. She wasn't strong like Daphne but that didn't mean she liked being like this in front of people, even family. Especially family.
Her stomach was in knots and the smell of the cocoa made her nauseous. Her mum always told her that cocoa would make her fat but she always drank it when Terence offered. Right now she couldn't stand it. She opened her mouth to tell him but snapped it shut quickly, not wanting to stammer her way through. She couldn't handle another defeat. Instead she looked up, gave him her best smile and took the thermos, sipping it slowly.
With her free hand she grabbed his and squeezed. If she couldn't tell him thank you she could at least show it. She didn't know what she would do if he left her too.
