Percy was completely ready to confess to mum what he had done, but George was already pulling him deeper into mischief. This was not the sort of role Percy was used to playing. I'm not Fred, was what Percy wanted to tell George, but he was struck with guilt. George was trying to include him, and so he had to purposefully shake the feeling that he wasn't being the butt of the joke. If anything, he'd do it for Fred's sake.
Still unaccustomed to the part, Percy began by taking the mission a little bit too seriously.
