Ron had finished eating already, but that didn't stop him for grabbing another roll out of the basket his mum had placed at the end of the table, and he carried it out into the sitting room. There were people everywhere, just like there always were, and he couldn't remember the last time he'd smiled quite so much. Maybe the stress and strain was still there, lingering under the surface, but for the most part they'd set outside life aside for a little while to just enjoy one another's company.
He laughed at something Bill said, turning his head and covering his mouth to keep from spewing roll bits all over his brother, and he caught a glimpse of Hermione passing outside the window. What was she doing outside in the cold? He excused himself and slipped away, grabbing his coat before going out into the chilled air himself.
Hermione was leaned against the garden wall, and Ron made sure to make some noise as he approached. Auror training had made him light-footed, but he knew better than to sneak up on a colleague, and that went double for Hermione if something was on her mind. "All right?" he asked, leaning one shoulder into the wall next to her.
