"Pity he only had girls," she said. Her father would never change allegiances, but she'd let Adrian think he had a chance at changing them. But the effort to lighten the mood, while appreciated, didn't work. She was too drawn into her sadness.
"I do," she admitted. "I'm going stir crazy. I feel useless here," she said. But the truth of the matter was that she didn't think that feeling would be going away any time soon. She was going to feel more alone by herself, and that scared her.
"Am I really safe anywhere?" she asked. "Here I only endanger more people." They both knew that was true. She wished she could answer his little please, though. Honor it and do what he wanted her to do, but she couldn't. "I have to get out," she whispered, casting her eyes down before lifting them back up to him again. "Come with me?" she begged, hope and honest sincerity clear in her voice.
