The pizza looked good and she'd nearly forgotten that she'd brought it until it was on the plate. Lavender picked a piece of olive off her pizza and ate it as Susan spoke. She looked up, finally meeting her eyes as Susan used her middle name. Lavender was already close to tears but there was something just right about Susan's response that made her swell with a warm affection. Unfortunately, the flood of emotion only seemed to rock her resolve not to cry.
The tears splashed hot onto her cheeks, her shoulders hunching, but she didn't look away this time. No funny business. "I'm pregnant," she confessed in the most pathetic voice she'd used in a long time before breaking into full on crying.
